Football Bears Open Regular Season Against Crosstown Rival Parkview Baptist

The Bears opened the 2016 season with a 24-13 win over crosstown rival Parkview Baptist at The Eagle’s Nest on Friday night. Both teams fought through their offensive struggles, but the Bears forced six turnovers, which turned out to be a deciding factor in the game. Both programs won state championships in the select division in 2015.

Scoring touchdowns for the Bears were: Patrick Dunn – on the receiving end of a Zach Crawford throw; Clyde Edwards-Helaire on a nineteen yard run; and Ben Miles iced the game late in the contest on a two yard run. Parker Fontenot kicked a forty-three yard field goal in the fourth quarter.

Players of the Game for CHS were:
John Eric Ginn (Defense)
Vernon Langley (Offense)
Parker Fontenot (Special Teams)

The Bears will face another 2015 state champion in Zachary on Friday night. Kickoff is for 7 p.m. at Olympia Stadium. The Broncos are coming off a 42-34 victory over Wilkinson County of Mississippi. Donovan Perkins leads the defense at linebacker, while running back Braylon Jones is a player to watch on the offense. Zachary is led by third year head coach, David Brewerton, a 1992 CHS graduate. This is Brewerton’s third year mentoring the Broncos.
