Freshman Lacrosse Team Avenges Season Opener and JV Outscores Opponents
The JV Lacrosse team went 2-1 in the Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic by defeating the Crusaders of Brother Martin and the Skippers of Mandeville before falling to the Wolves of St Paulí´s. The Bears scoring leader was #12 Sean Saxon with 2 goals and 2 assists followed closely by #8 Matthew Baggett and #54 Bennett Sherman with 2 goals and 1 assist each. #9 Christopher Blois, #67 Dillon Hefflin, #20 Jonathan Miller, and #15 Baylor Shexnayder all added one goal apiece to help the Bears outscore their opponents 10 to 6 on the day.
The Bears outscored their opponents behind solid defensive outings by first year defensmen #31 Patrick Colclough, #33 Mattson Hood, midfielder #54 Bennett Sherman, and goalie #61 Michael Ruiz.
The freshman lacrosse team avenged their season opening loss to St Paulí´s by defeating the same Wolves in their final game of the Sugar Bowl Lacrosse Classic in New Orleans this weekend. The Bears rallied from a 2-0 second half deficit to beat the Wolves 4-2.
The Freshmen started the day with a 7-3 win over the Crusaders of Brother Martin, dropped one game each to Jesuit and St. Thomas Moore and closed out the day with the victory over St. Paulí´s. The Bears spread scoring around with offensive production coming from freshmen #34 Taylor Boyle, #58 Lawrence Elkins, #28 Chris Facundus, #67 Dillon Hefflin,#72 Randal Pizzolato, #74 Chandler Pastorek, #37 Brent Talamo, and #60 Adrian Toranto. The Bears combined for 17 total offensive points on 14 goals and 3 assists. Chris Facundus lead the Bears scoring with 4 total points.
The Varsity team entered the tournament missing 5 starters and finished with a record of 0-2-1 with losses to Brother Martin and a tough James E Taylor High School from Katy, TX. Senior Captain, Sean Averette, lead all scorers with 4 offensive points with 3 goals and an assist. #10 Michael Beal, #7 Hayden Case, #18 John Kellner, and #17 Jake Wagner all added a goal in the tournament. #4 Nick Cotton, #25 Paul Farmer, #2 Greg Normand, and #49 John Portwood rounded out all scorers with an assist each.
All three squads now move into the heart of their season as League play resumes.
