Golf Bears Win Region 2 Tournament
After winning the Metro and District titles in consecutive weeks, the Bears were looking to run its streak to three tourney titles in a row. Carter Plantation in Springfield hosted the next round and the Bears conquered the course and its seven opponents by shooting a 304 to win the Region 2 golf tournament.
Catholic outscored Jesuit by four strokes (308) and Brother Martin and Zachary (327) to clinch a spot in the Division I state tournament next week. St. Paul’s finished fifth with a 329.
Johnathan Ellis was the tourney’s overall low scorer with a two-under par, 70. Carson Caruso finished third overall with a 74. Will Perilloux shot 79, Nick Ashy carded a 81, and Brayden Seguin scored a 82.
The Bears will play 36 holes in the state tournament at The Wetlands in Lafayette with the first round of 18 holes on Monday, concluding on Tuesday with the final round of 18.
“Our guys have had a laser-like focus the past three weeks at our post-season tournaments,” said head golf coach Pat Dulaney. “We have still yet to play our best golf and I believe our preparation has us set up to do so next week at The Wetlands for state. Our guys are looking forward to it.”
Tee times for both Monday and Tuesday are at 1 p.m.
