Golf Team Finishes Fourth in State
The CHS golf team completed its season with a fourth place finish at the Division I state championship on Tuesday, May 3. The tournament was held at Farm D’Allie golf course in Carencro. The Bears shot 310-303 for a two day total of 613.
C.E. Byrd of Shreveport won the Division I title with a 582 total. West Monroe was second at 599, St. Thomas More checked in third with a 604 and the Bears outdistanced Jesuit by 19 strokes for fourth place. Baton Rouge area school, Zachary, finished seventh with a 664.
Stewart Perilloux completed his career with round of 76 and 75 for a 151 score, good enough for 8th place overall. The individual district champion will attend Ole Miss and walk on the golf team. Fellow senior Connor Wilson had the lowest score of the tourney for the Bears, firing a second round 74. Wilson will walk on at SLU.
Coach Pat Dulaney was proud of his team for this season’s achievements. “Our golfers won a district championship and regional golf championship against excellent competition. They were the Metro runner-ups to a team that won a state championship in another division. We had one loss in the regular season of our metro league. We had a golfer win a district individual championship. There is a lot to be thankful for,” noted the longtime CHS head coach. “I want to thank the parents for their support of our golf program and to my first year assistant Eric Held for his work. Our seniors consisting of Stewart Perilloux, Connor Wilson, William Lee and Austin Michiels exhibited great leadership qualities all season and modeled the character that the Brothers of the Sacred Heart would be proud of.”
The golf team returns four of its top six players for next year in junior D.J. Johnson, junior Max Trapp, sophomore Nick Ashy and freshman Carson Caruso. Freshmen Cross Marchand and Will Perilloux are young golfers that also return. “Our future is bright in the golf program,” said Dulaney.
