Golf Team Finishes Second in Metro Championship
The golf team finished second in the Metro Championship with a score of 309 at The Island in Plaquemine on Tuesday, April 12. University High was the winning team, shooting a season low of 292. The Bears defeated Division I, District 3 opponents Zachary, Dutchtown, St. Amant, Denham Springs, Live Oak and East Ascension in the Metro tournament.
“First of all, Chris Burkstaller, the pro at The Island, did a tremendous job of accomodating the best high school golfers for such a prestigious tournament,” said head coach Patrick Dulaney. “It was good to get The Metro in with the rain that was forecasted and with last year’s event cancelled due to weather. I thought our guys competed hard and we were just a few shots away from making a run. Hats off to U High for shooting an excellent round of golf. I know our guys are excited about getting the opportunity to compete for a district championship and move on to the Regionals.”
Seniors Stewart Perilloux and Connor Wilson led the Bears with scores of 76. D.J. Johnson carded a 78, Carson Caruso scored a 79, and Nick Ashy holed out an 81.
The Bears will compete for a district championship on Tuesday, April 19, at LSU Golf Course. The first flight begins at 8:30 a.m. with the top four teams advancing to the Regional tournament the following week.
