Golf Team In The Hunt For Second Round
Day one of the Division I state golf tournament was kind to the Bears, as the five man squad shot a season best 298 in the first round. The 298 puts the Bears four strokes out of the lead with 18 holes left to play on Tuesday at Farm d’Allie in Carencro. There are eight teams competing for the state championship and 48 golfers overall in the tournament.
Senior D.J. Johnson shot a two-under par 70 and is currently in third place. Sophomore Carson Caruso shot a 74; senior Luke Miller and junior Nick Ashy both fired 77s; and freshman Jonathan Ellis shot a 78.
“Our guys played a great round on Monday. They played to their talent level and showed toughness when they were faced with adversity,” commented coach Pat Dulaney. “We wanted to compete on day one and put ourselves in position to win a championship on day two.”
