Junior Varsity Lacrosse Team Downs the Flyers of Loyola College Prep

This Sunday the JV lacrosse team defeated the Flyers of Loyola College Prep of Shreveport by a score of 11-4.   The Bears opened up a 2 goal lead in the first quarter with scores from Schexnayder and Miller before the Flyers were able to get on the board early in the second.  The Bears quickly responded with three goals in the second by Abshire, Ferachi, and Kellner to go into the half up 5-1.  The Bears increased the pressure early in the third quarter with four more goals, 2 goals each by Kellner and Baggett.  Loyola only managed two more goals in the fourth which were quickly matched by Ferachi who added the final 2 goals.

The Flyers were only able to sporadically penetrate the Bears formidable defense of Hood, Adkins, Barrileaux, Fasano, and Colclough and only managed 10 shots on goal all day.  When the Flyers did manage to penetrate the defense they were stopped by Bears goalie Joseph Angelloz who managed a 60% save percentage allowing only 4 goals on 10 shots.

Junior Midfielder Baylor Schexnayder who lead the scoring with 4 points on 1 goal and 3 assists was followed closely by Sophomore attack John Kellner and freshman midfielder Chris Ferachi goals who both scored 3 goals. Sophomore attack Matthew Baggett, after the prerequisite 2 shots off pipe, added 3 points on 2 goals and an assist.  Other scorers included, sophomore midfielder Jonathan Miller – 1 goal,  and sophomore midfielder Bennett Sherman í 3 assists.  Defensive long-stick midfielder Cody Abshire added a loose-ball chip shot to round out scorers.

Head JV coach Ben Vogt stated that íÍit was the best complete game weí´ve played all year, I think the fact that we had eight different players score goals shows that these players are unselfish and considering that 4 of our goals came from the bench shows just how deep this teamí´s talent really isíñ

The varsity Lacrosse team dropped ití´s game to the Flyers 7-11 after what head coach Jeff Echols called íÍthe best all-around game of the season against arguably the best team in the state.íñ

All three lacrosse teams travel to Gulfport, MS this weekend to participate in the íÍBattle by the Beachíñ tournament featuring teams from all over Louisiana, Mississippi, and the southeastern US.  We wish them the best of luck.
