Lacrosse Team Returns to Winning Ways
After a rough weekend, the varsity lacrosse team returned to the field, hosting the Holy Cross Tigers, from New Orleans, before a large home crowd that came out to watch history, as this was the first night lacrosse game on the campus of Catholic High.
The Bears dominated the night, scoring ití´s first goal just 8 seconds into play. The scoring continued throughout the night and was complimented by a strong defense that gave up only 2 shots on goal. These two parts of the game, combined with only one penalty against the Bears, led to the Bears shutting out the Tigers 17-0.
On offense, the Bears were led by Justin David, who had 4 goals and 2 assist for 6 points. He was joined in scoring by Tres Hawkins, who had 3 goals and 1 assist, Matthew Berdon, who had 2 goals and 1 assist, and Andrew Young, who had 2 goals and 2 assist. Additionally, Daniel Grant, Evan Fontenot, VJ Saurage, Matthew Miller, John Ritchie and Reeves Walker all had one goal. These were the first goals of the year for Saurage, Miller and Ritchie, who also received the game ball. Finally, Matthew Boyle, Josh Brooks, Jack Godbery and Reeves Walker all had an assist.
Defensively, the Bears were led by Matthew Miller, who had 2 ground balls and 3 take aways.
Coach Tyler Gray was proud of the Bears for their effort and focus in the win. After a rough few weeks, this was the first of 6 games over 12 days and will test his young team. He stated that receiving only one penalty in this type of game is unusual and shows the character of the boys at Catholic High.

The Bears will return to the field on Saturday morning, as they start District Play against Dutchtown. The game starts at 11am and will be held at Dutchtown High School. Come out and support the Bears, as they try to win their second consecutive District Championship.
