Lance Gaupp Receives First Honorable Mention At LSU International Bass Festival

CHS sophomore Lance Gaupp received First Honorable Mention at the LSU International Bass Festival Concerto Competition for Young Bassists held on  Feb 11, 2017, at the LSU School of Music. This was a significant honor as the competition was steep this year including the top students from three music conservatories in China and Taiwan. Gaupp placed fourth behind these three students.  He is the student of Professor Yung Chiao Wei (LSU) and Robert Kling (CHS 2009). Gaupp was accompanied by Mary Grace Ellerbee on piano to Dittersdorf’s Concerto in D Major written specifically for double bass with accompaniment.

The Judges included Lawrence Wolfe (New England Conservatory of Music. Boston Symphony Orchestra, BostonUnivesrity College of Fine Arts), Derek Weller (Interlochen School for the Arts, Eastern Michigan University, Toledo Symphony Orchestra), John Madere (Baton Rouge Symphony Orchestra, Southeastern Louisiana University) and Bill Schettler (Louisiana Philharmonic Orchestra Principal Bass).
