March 31 | An Update From Brian W. Hightower ’97
Dear CHS Alumni,
During this time of social distancing and Teacher Supported Online Learning (TSOL), OUR Catholic High School continues its tradition of excellence and will be as strong as ever when we get through this trying time.
If you took some time to visit the CHS website, you would see updates from several members of the CHS community including our President, Mr. Gene Tullier, and Principal, Mrs. Lisa Harvey. Our school continues to operate according to its mission, and CHS is being operated according to the tradition of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart and the charism of the Brothers’ founder, Father Andre Coindre.
I assure you that while some things have changed:
- Our students are not in the classrooms on Hearthstone Drive;
- Our faculty and staff do not walk the halls;
- Our clubs and athletic teams are not winning awards and breaking records; and,
- Even some of our students are not wearing belts, not shaving and have let their hair
grow a little past their brows.
Some things remain the same:
Catholic High School expects every young man to perform to the best of his ability, to treat others with respect, to learn self-discipline and to graduate and move on from our school understanding that God loves them and it is their obligation to make the community in which they live a better place.
The Office of Alumni Relations is working to keep you updated on the state of the school and the Alumni Association. We have two weekly video conference calls to discuss the school and to plan for the future. As expected, we have already postponed one of our more beloved events – The 50 Year Reunion. We will work with class leaders to reschedule that celebration at the earliest possible time. We are actively monitoring COVID-19 and the status of the CHS Fishing Rodeo. Once we know more, we will update you on this and other upcoming CHS Alumni events.
It is important that you, as a member of the CHS Alumni Association, know this – We will continue to work to perpetuate and protect the mission of Catholic High School. We have been through difficult times before and we have prevailed. When we act together, we are stronger. Please support each other, pray for each other and please do what you can to support the CHS family especially the small businesses that support our school and our CHS Alumni Association.
As we will be praying for you, please pray for CHS and the Brothers of the Sacred Heart. Remember, “It’s More Than Four, It’s A Lifetime!” Go Bears!
