Meet the New Faces (and voices) of the Bears!
When the Football Bears kick-off the 2016 regular season against Parkview, there will be some new faces (and voices) in the booth calling the action. John Burke, Dixon McMakin Õ05 and David Butler Õ77 will team-up to be the voices of the Bears on 104.5 ESPN Baton Rouge and the Bruin Broadcast Network’s live stream.
Burke, a graduate of LSU and veteran sports announcer with over 150 high school games to his credit, will be the BearsÕ play-by-play man. While he might be new to the BearsÕ broadcast, Burke is very familiar with the CHS program. ÒMy experience with Coach Weiner and the CHS football program goes all the way back to 1997, when I was working in local TV sports. IÕve always admired Coach Weiner and his teams – they are prepared, they play hard and his staff does things the right way.Ó
The second member of the team is color commentator Dixon McMakin Õ05. A three sport letterman and member of the 2002, 2003 and 2004 football district championship teams while at Catholic, McMakin brings a wealth of knowledge and passion for the game to the booth. ÒCoach Weiner had such a positive and lasting impact on my life. IÕm really looking forward to sharing the season with our listeners on the radio and Bruin Broadcast Network.Ó
Rounding out the trio is David Butler Õ77. Butler is a long-time supporter of CHS football, and writes a sports column for Catholic HighÕs quarterly magazine, Bear Facts. ÒIÕm so excited to be working with John and Dixon. IÕve known both for many years, and their professionalism and love for CHS will continue the standard set by Dick Walcott and Denny Braud.Ó
Their broadcast can be heard on the radio each week on 104.5 FM ESPN Baton Rouge with a simulcast on the Bruin Broadcast NetworkÕs live stream. Pre-game broadcast begins at 6:45 p.m.
