Michael Toups Named CHS Head Basketball Coach
Michael Toups has been named head basketball coach at Catholic High School of Baton Rouge.
Toups has served as head basketball coach at St. Paul’s School in Covington for the past seven years. During his 10 years at St. Paul’s, he has taught English and served three years as assistant basketball coach.
‘I am very excited to have Mike Toups join our faculty as teacher and head basketball coach. Mike is a great man, a great teacher and a great coach. He will be an excellent addition to our faculty,’ commented Catholic High School Principal Brother Barry Landry, SC.
As head basketball coach at St. Paul’s, Toups’ record includes 150 wins and 84 losses and a 63-35 district record in what is now District 7-5A. His teams qualified for the 5A state playoffs five of his seven years as coach. In 2005-06, his team went 30-6 overall, won the district title and advanced to the state quarterfinals. Toups was named Coach of the Year in 2006 by the Clarion Herald and the Covington News Banner. In 2007, he was selected to coach the East All-Star Team in the Louisiana High School Coaches Association Basketball game.

Toups, a graduate of Jesuit High School of New Orleans, earned his Bachelor of Arts in Communication in 1997 from Loyola University in New Orleans. In 2008, he received his Master’s in Art of English Teaching from the University of New Orleans.
In addition to head basketball coach at Catholic High School, Toups will teach English and Physical Education.
