Miss Anna Colleen Koonce Crowned 2017 CHS Homecoming Queen

A large crowd turned out at Olympia Stadium on Friday night to visit with old classmates, watch the band perform and see Miss Anna Colleen Koonce crowned the 2017 CHS Homecoming Queen. Unfortunately, the football team lost a hard fought battle to East Ascension, 9-3. The defense held the Spartans to under 200 yards of offense, but the Bears could not reach the endzone. The Bears dropped to 5-3 overall, while EA moved to 7-1 on the season.

Patrick Mensah was the Player of the Game on special teams, as the senior cornerback returned the opening kickoff 41 yards and averaged well over 10 yards per effort on punt returns. The Defensive Player of the Week Award went to the entire defense for their effort in holding an explosive EA offense to limited yardage. Linemen Jordan Davenport, Paul Brown, Elijah Reames, Connor Finucane and Peyton Harris shut down the Spartan running game. The senior linebacking corps of Jack Ducote, Kael Howard and Andrew Gauthier were stellar in the run and passing game. Noah Broussard, Tim Morgan, Patrick Mensah and Jonathan Mestayer enforced a “no fly zone” when EA threw the football. There was no Offensive Player of the Week honor for week 8.

The Bears return to action on Friday, October 27, in Geismar at Dutchtown High School. The Griffons sport an identical 5-3 record overall. DHS is coming off of a 28-0 win over Broadmoor. Lutcher and St Amant are signature wins on the 2017 docket for the Griffons. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
