Nine CHS students participated in the sixth annual Brothers of the Sacred Heart Mission Experience in Metuchen
June 30-July 5, nine CHS students participated in the sixth annual Brothers of the Sacred Heart Mission Experience in Metuchen, Thirty-eight students from six U.S. Province schools (CHS, Brother Martin, St. Stanislaus, Bishop Guertin, Monsignor McClancy, and St. Joseph of Metuchen, NJ, who served as our host) participated in the experience. The week began with a welcome dinner and mass celebrated by Br. Louis Couvillion in the historic Brothers’ chapel on St. Joseph’s campus.
During the week, students worked on several environmental projects in the area. They maintained rain water gardens on municipal properties, spread mulch and painted benches in parks, cleaned a beach and participated in a larger study about waste in America’s waterways and provided weed prevention around solar panels for a program serving struggling new mothers and their children. The students also worked on several smaller projects on campus at St. Joseph High School.
Each night concluded with prayer led by students grouped by school. The prayers focused on the charism of the Brothers of the Sacred Heart, building community and care for God’s creation. The CHS-led prayer took place in the Brothers’ cemetery and was centered around the remarkable story of Br. Albertinus who is buried there.
The CHS participants were Paul Bourgeois, Adam Callicott, Tyler Ginn, Philip Gordon, Stephen Herin, Braeden Jacobson, Nick Landry, Jacob LeBlanc, and Logan Rodrigue. Chaperones were Ms. Nancy Herin and Mr. Scott Losavio.
