No. 1 Seed Soccer Bears Roll in First Round

Update by Trey Poché

In their quest to reach the Division 1 State Championship Game for the second year in a row, the No. 1 seed CHS Bears put together a dominant performance, blanking Thibodeaux. The “mercy rule” ended the game 9-0 at half-time.

It only took Catholic High School two minutes to get the scoring started in the first round playoff game against the 32nd seed Thibodeaux Tigers when Blake Cook blasted home a ball from Nathan Ogra into the top of the net.

One minute later, Alex Leonard calmly tucked away a shot past an onrushing keeper to double the Bears lead. By the 20th minute, the score was already 4-0.

The goal of the night went to Buster Couhig in his first game back from a severe injury. Couhig ripped a free kick into the top right corner of the Thibodeaux goal from well outside the box. The keeper had no chance.

With a dominant performance behind them, the Bears now prepare for the second round against either Alexandria Senior High or Lafayette High. The game will be played sometime next week.
