One Last Trial Run For The Big Orange Wave
One last trial run will be on the docket for the Big Orange Wave as its opening meet draws near. The Bears will compete against St. Michael and Episcopal, two running powers in their classifications and the Baton Rouge metro area, on Saturday, Aug. 25 at Highland Road Park. The final “scrimmage” will get started at 8 a.m. and give competitors a glimpse at the Highland course, a staple in the Baton Rouge area for cross country programs.
Coach Pete Boudreaux will use the trial run as a final evaluation before the September 1, Bayou Boogie, also contested at Highland Road Park. The opening meet will see hundreds of runners from around south Louisiana and the Gulf Coast region converge on Highland. Stay tuned for event times to be posted next week at this website.
The Bears are expected to sport one of the top teams in any classification in Louisiana in 2018. Catholic League schools such as Brother Martin, Jesuit, John Curtis and Holy Cross will be tough competitors this season along with north Louisiana powers Airline and Parkway. Also keep an eye out for St. Paul’s, a state champion in recent memory.
Seniors Collin Hedges and James Lalonde lead the Big Orange Wave and a slew of juniors and sophomores return for Pete Boudreaux.
