Over 50 Runners Participate in Cross Country Reunion Run
Catholic High hosted the inaugural cross country reunion on August 8 and 9, 2008 including a commemorative run with over 50 runners spanning four decades. The reunion kicked off with a jambalaya and stag social on Friday, August 8 in the Catholic High Union and Courtyard. The reunion concluded on Saturday evening with a dinner for cross country alumni, family and friends.
Attending the weekends events were members of the 1972 State Championship team led by Greg Haase, the first of 13 state championship teams; and 1975 State Championship and Perfect Score Team members Lionel Currier, Ed Gassie, Paul Rhorer and Les Roussel. The 1975 Cross Country Team achieved the only perfect score ever recorded in Louisiana’s state meet competition and the only perfect score recorded in the United States for any state meet competitions in 1975.
CHS Cross Country alumni participating in Saturday nights’ events were Ed Gassie, introductions and reminiscences; John McLindon, photo collage presentation; Greg Haase, Keynote Address; Paul Rhorer, special presentation to Mrs. Pat Boudreaux; and Tim Barfield presented Coach Boudreaux with the State of Louisiana Declaration from Governor Bobby Jindal declaring August 9, 2008 as ‘Pete Boudreaux Day.’ Former CHS Cross Country team members Mark Dobbins and Claney Duplechin also offered tributes.
Chairing the event was John McLindon. Committee members included David Butler, Tr_ Hendry, Ed Gassie, Paul Rhorer, Brent Martin, Michael Hendry, Sam Mapes, CHS Alumni Director Glen Randow and CHS Events Coordinator Barbara Camp.
The Catholic High Office of Alumni Relations sponsored the event along with the CHS Alumni Association.
