Senior Spencer Heitman Earns Rank of Eagle Scout
Congratulations to CHS senior Spencer Heitman for earning the rank of Eagle Scout. Heitman has been a member of the scouting program at Our Lady of Mercy and has served as assistant senior patrol leader. To earn the rank of Eagle Scout, a Scout must progress thru six ranks, earn a minimum of 21 merit badges, serve in several leadership positions within his troop and provide service to the community. In addition, a Scout must plan, develop and give leadership to a service project for a religious or community organization.
Heitman’s Eagle Scout project included the dismantling and complete reconstruction of the raised planting beds at a local assisted living facility. In addition to rebuilding the existing raised beds, he modified the design to allow for ADA compliance. He coordinated with the management of the facility to get funding for the project and recruited fellow scouts and their dads to help with the construction. To complete the project, the old planters were pulled up and discarded and the new planters were constructed, installed, and planted.
Heitman was awarded his Eagle badge at a Court of Honor ceremony on Saturday, April 6 along with fellow Eagle Scouts and CHS Seniors, Kylle Poiencot and Philip Tullier.
