Soccer Team Advances To State Semifinals!

The #12 seed Bears’ soccer team travels to Covington on Saturday, Feb. 20, to face top-seed St.Paul’s, with kickoff set for 6:30pm. The Bears advanced to the Division I Semifinals with victories over #21 Pineville (3-0), #5 St. Amant (2-1) and #4 Jesuit (2-0).

The 15-7-2 Bears will need a command performance from its defense to beat the Wolves on the road. St. Paul’s sports a 25-1-3 record, and earned its way to the Division I Semifinals by defeating #16 Dutchtown (7-0) and #8 New Iberia (2-0). The Wolves received a first round bye. St. Paul’s went undefeated in district play by defeating #2 Mandeville, #15 Northshore, #22 Hammond and #23 Fontainebleau. The Wolves are the 25th ranked team in the country according to TopDrawerSoccer.com, and the #1 ranked team in Region 2 in the United States by USA Today.

CHS soccer coach Josh McReynolds knows it will take a total team effort for a victory. “To defeat the Wolves, we need to continue to play ‘bend but don’t break’ defense coupled with an opportunistic offense. We have picked up solid keeper play in the playoffs from Patrick Riley and Will Whitehead, and that must continue against a great St. Paul’s squad.”

For those Bear fans who can’t make the road trip to cheer on the Bears, the match will be streamed live at: http://www.sportsnola.com/
