Soccer Team Ends Season Play with 12-7-2 Record
The CHS Soccer team fought Division III power University Lab to a 0-0 tie on the turf pitch on Monday night. The match concluded the regular season for both teams as they await the release of the final power rankings on Wednesday, Feb. 3. The Bears are currently seeded 10th and need to crack the top eight to get a first round bye. U-High sits at number five in the Division III power rankings.
The Bears had an excellent tune-up match for the playoffs squaring off against the Cubs. The Bears’ defense showed up, allowing just two shots on goal by the Cubs. CHS keeper Patrick Riley had both stops for the home team. U-High only completed 41 percent of its passes and its time of possession sat at 46 percent, another testament to solid defense by the Bears.
The Bears possessed the ball 54 percent of the match and took seven shots but could not find the back of the net. The home team could not take advantage of five corner kicks. Cole Cazenave, the leading goal scorer for the Bears, missed on two attempts.
Catholic wrapped up the regular season with a 12-7-2 record, while University finished at 14-5-4.
