Soccer Team Faces U-High In Final Regular Season Match
The final regular season match for the soccer Bears kicks off tonight, Jan. 31, against U-High. The Bears bring their 8-6-4 record into tonight’s match and are coming off their District 3 title win over Denham Springs. U-High is one of the state’s better Division III sides with a 14-4-4 ledger.
The Bears are #11 in the Division I power ratings and ranked #13 in the most recent state soccer poll. The Cubs stand at #5 in the latest Division III power ratings and are Louisiana’s #3 ranked team in the latest poll.
“U-High is a large and athletic team. They have historically played an extremely direct style of soccer and rely heavily on set pieces,” said head soccer coach Josh McReynolds. “We are not the biggest team in terms of length, so our hope is to use tonight’s match as preparation for the playoffs. Our guys have put in a tremendous amount of work over the past year on the field and in the weight room. If we can consistently win the first and second ball and get the ball on the ground quickly, we will put ourselves in great position to be successful tonight.”
Division I playoff pairings will be announced on Wednesday, Feb. 1, by the LHSAA. The Bears are assured of a home match in round one, but a win over the Cubs could potentially earn CHS a first round bye.
Tonight’s game kicks off at 6 p.m. on the U-High pitch. The Cubs’ soccer stadium is located a parking lot over from left field at Alex Box Stadium.
