Soccer Team Improves to 5-1 in District
The Catholic Soccer team did not let the weather from Saturday, or the rescheduling of the match, damper their focus and determination for the big district match-up with Baton Rouge High School. The game was originally scheduled for Saturday, but the field was deemed unplayable after some steady rain led to lots of standing water. Both coaches agreed to play the game at 3 p.m. on Monday, January 18 at Baton Rouge High School. The Bears put together their most complete performance from start to finish, and were relentless with their defensive pressure all over the field. CHS opened scoring in the first half with goals by Alex Bujenovic and Philip Primeaux who were able to capitalize on pressing the BRMHS backline and burying their chances in the goal. BRMHS answered in the second half with a nice individual effort and shot from distance. This goal seemed to ignite the Bears who turned up their play another notch, and scored three goals off of set pieces. Jack Hymel scored two goals off of well taken free kicks that demonstrated good awareness and creativity. The other goal scored by the Bears was an own goal against BRMHS after a well driven corner kick by Jack Hymel. The game finished 5-1. The Bears improve to 5-1 in District and are currently ranked number nine in the state.
