Sophomore Lance Gaupp Participated in the International Master Players Festival
CHS sophomore Lance Gaupp participated in the 2nd annual International Master Players Festival (MPF) hosted by the University of Delaware on July 27-August 5. This bi-lingual music festival is held each year as a collaboration of musically talented students between China and the United States.
Gaupp was one of only five American students to participate in the festival performances and competitions including jazz, solo ensemble, chamber and orchestra. In addition to daily lessons, intense ensemble study and performances each night, the students attended a college fair specifically for music schools.
ÒIt is an inspiration to interact with these amazing musicians toward a unified goal. To share a stage with them is truly an honor and I am humbled by the opportunity to be included,Ó said Gaupp. ÒNot only to make music together, but to gain a better cultural understanding and know that we can communicate as one group despite language and expression barriers is exciting. I admire the work ethic and talent of all the students but especially the Chinese. I look forward to future opportunities to play music with the instructors and musicians of MPF.Ó
Lance was also the only American student to be included in MFPÕs American Musical Journey which traveled throughout the Northeast United States to musical venues including The Julliard School, Curtis Institute of Music, Manhattan School of Music and the Philadelphia Philharmonic.
