Student Endowment Fund Named in Honor of Mrs. Marta McCarron
As Catholic High School continues to mourn the loss of Mrs. Marta McCarron, longtime Spanish teacher at CHS who died October 8, those close to her have found a way to remember her forever.
Mrs. McCarron began her teaching career at CHS in 1989. During her nearly 20 years as a member of the faculty, she touched the lives of hundreds of students and colleagues. She will be remembered by all who knew her as a woman of deep concern for others and an abiding faith in God. She lived her life in service to others and with a deep passion to help improve the lives of those in need.
An example of Marta wanting to improve the lives of those in need, especially the young men she taught here at CHS, was her commitment to starting and completely funding the Josh Hoffpauir ’98 Endowed Scholarship. Upon finishing this scholarship, Marta was soon on a mission to begin an endowment to help students who would be financially unable to purchase things like class rings, letter jackets, or to attend conventions that their perspective clubs might attend.
Marta, along with her National Honor Society members, soon found that the newly formed Student Ambassador organization was also interested in joining in her mission. The two organizations banned together in the spring of 2008 to start the CHS Student Endowment Fund. The only thing that Marta disagreed with was the name of the endowment. She really wanted to attach a deserving name to the endowment. The stumbling block to this was that the two organizations could not come up with a deserving recipient.
Well, now, there is an obvious one. This recently formed endowment will now be called the Marta Hernandez McCarron – CHS Student Endowment Fund. It is a fitting way to honor a special woman who lived the Gospel values that are at the core of the mission of Catholic High. Marta loved her CHS boys and through this endowment she will continue to make a difference in the lives of the young men she cherished.
