Students To Enter Military Service

Two Catholic High students will enter military academies, one will join the U.S. Marines and two will enter colleges in the ROTC program. 

Andrew Carmichael and Michael Love have appointments to military academies. 

Carmichael will attend the United States Military Academy at West Point in New York.

íÍI chose West Point for two reasons: the education is top notch and I have the opportunity to serve my country,íñ commented Carmichael. 

Andrew has served as editor of the student newspaper, Bearly Published, a student minister, on the student council and a member of the cross country and track teams. 

Carmichael is the son of Charles and Lisette Carmichael.

Michael Love will attend the United States Naval Academy in Annapolis, Maryland.  

íÍMy brother was in the Merchant Marines and my grandfather was in the Navy Reserves.  I was always interested in the Naval Academy,íñ commented Love.

Michael was a two-time state wrestling champion at CHS, a member of the Honor Board and a student minister. 

He is the son of Scott and Joan Love. 

Rob Gates will attend Notre Dame on  a ROTC Scholarship.   He was a member of the cross country team, student council, Mu Alpha Theta and National Honor Society.  He was named a National Merit Finalist. 

Rob is the son of Tim and Melinda Gates. 

Frank Turk will attend LSU on an Air Force ROTC Scholarship. 

íÍI have always been interested in the Air Force.   I found out that LSU had an Air Force ROTC program and I was excited to have the opportunity to be a part of this program,íñ commented Turk.

Frank has been a student ambassador for three years, a member of the National Honor Society, Mu Alpha Theta and the French Club.  He served as president of the science club for two years. 

Frank is the son of Fred Turk and Judy Schuerman. 

Anthony Salvaggio will join the US Marines. 

“I am excited to join the marines.  It felt like family and I wanted the opportunity to serve my country and then to attend college,íñ added Salvaggio.   His job in the marines is Recon, a special forces unit.

Anthony has been a member of the football team for three years. He also was on the track team and a wrestler for one year. 

Anthony is the son of Paul and Monica Salvaggio.
