Tennis Team Runners-Up in Regional Tournament
Day Two of the Division I 5-A Region II Tennis Tournament was full of excitement. Quarterfinal matches began play at 8 a.m. The team of Edmonson and Rees played the crafty Northshore pair of Anderson and Lee. The Bears were triumphant with a score of 6-1; 6-3 to move on to the semifinals. On the court next to them, the team of Falgoust and Perrodin had their hands full with Duncan and Rider from St. Paulí´s. In the longest match of the tournament (3 hours) Duncan and Rider prevailed by a score of 6-4; 6-7 (3); 7-6 (7). In singles, William Loupe had no trouble in his quarterfinal match against Justin Moore winning by a score of 6-0; 6-1. Next came the daunting task of playing the #2 seed, Chase Custer. While Loupe hung in the first set, eventually losing in a tiebreaker, he couldní´t manage the second set and lost by a score of 7-6; 6-2.
Edmonson and Rees played another St. Paulí´s team in the semis. This match against Amaya and Bachrack was a tough one, but the Bears pulled it out by a score of 4-6; 6-3; 6-2. In the finals another St. Paul team, the #1 seed of McCracken and Patel proved a little too much. Edmonson and Rees went down by the score of 6-3; 6-4.
The Bears had a great showing in the regional tournament and finished the two-day event as the Regional Runner-Up. St. Paulí´s completed the tourney as the Regional Champions having both singles and doubles champions from their team.
The tennis team returns to action Wednesday and Thursday, May 5 and 6, at the state tournament in New Orleans. All five courts qualified for the tournament – a feat that no CHS team has done in quite a while.
