The Big Orange Wave Displays It’s Depth
Highland Road Park was the site of the final local cross country meet last Saturday as the Big Orange Wave competed in the Region II, Class 5A meet. The Wave captured the Regional meet by scoring a low 24 points and featuring the top two finishers in seniors James Lalonde and Collin Hedges. Lalonde tracked the lead runner for St. Paul’s throughout and logged splits of 5:05 and 10:15 for the first two miles. The blistering pace did the St. Paul’s lead runner in and Lalonde passed him in the last mile and pulled away to win the race in 15:29. Collin Hedges made one of the strongest closing runs of the season to the hit the line in 15:47 and nip an opposing runner at he finish line.
Chris Cuntz placed 4th for the Wave in 15:50, Owen Simon was 8th in 15:54, and Ben Langley rounded out the top five in 15:57. Zach Morgan finished 12th and Luke Bella was 18th for the Wave.
The team will travel to Natchitoches and compete in the Class 5A state championship meet on Tuesday, November 13th. The Wave will get started at 2:45 on Tuesday with their eyes on capturing a second consecutive 5A state championship. Top teams to watch for on Tuesday are St. Pauls (second to the Wave in the recent Region II meet), Brother Martin, Airline, and Parkway.
The Wave also took the St. Michael hosted Warrior Run on Saturday in varsity competition. Coach Pete Boudreaux showed off the depth of his squad with five runners showing in the top seventeen to take the meet. Joseph Ellis (6th), Daniel Sullivan (8th), and Blake Cook (10th) placed in the top ten for the Wave. Ellis eclipsed the sixteen minute mark with a time of 15:53.
