The Big Orange Wave Dominates at the Bayou Boogie Invitational

The Big Orange Wave made a huge statement in its season opening victory on Saturday at Highland Road Park in their domination at the Bayou Boogie Invitational. The Wave placed ten runners in the top sixteen and fourteen in the top twenty-four in the 2018 opener.

CHS scored a team low 30 points to capture the Bayou Boogie over second place Menard with 100 points. Seventeen teams competed in the boys’ varsity race and the Bears defeated four other Class 5A schools on Saturday.

James Lalonde was the first Bear to cross the wire, stopping the timer in 15:53 which was good enough for second overall. Joseph Ellis (4th overall; 16:08); Collin Hedges (6th in 16:13); and Zach Morgan (7th in 16:15) were the Bears in the top ten.

Chris Cuntz (11th), Ben Langley (12th), Luke Bella (13th), Peter Kelly (14th), Blake Cook (15th), and Matthew Hubbell (16th) all finished within seventeen seconds of each other and placed in the top sixteen. Daniel Sullivan, Owen Simon, Oliver Nickel, Bailey Faulk, Sean Dunn, and Adam Callegan placed in the top twenty-six runners for Catholic High.

The Bears are the #1 ranked team in the Large Schools Cross Country Poll and received all ten possible first place votes. The voters are members of the Louisiana Track & Field Coaches Association.

The Bears take to the course again on Saturday in the Round Table Invitational hosted by Episcopal. Action gets underway for 8:30am and over two-hundred runners are expected in the boys’ varsity event.
