The Catholic High Bears opened the 18-19 basketball season with a convincing 60-47 win
The Catholic High Bears opened the 18-19 basketball season with a convincing 60-47 win over the visiting Chalmette Owls on Tuesday night. The Bears dominated the Owls from the Greater New Orleans area from start to finish and were up by 18 points several times in the second half. The halftime score was 36-22 in favor of the homestanding Bears.
Kentrell Garnett and London Scott both scored 13 to pace the Bears on the stat sheet. Both juniors converted three, three point baskets on the night. Senior Nick Judice drop in 10 points with two shots coming from behind the three point arc. CHS was potent from three point land versus Chalmette, dropping in twelve long range shots.
6th year head coach Mark Cascio was excited about the opening night win. “Teams spend the entire off-season with an eye for that first game. To come out and see our guys perform well on opening night was rewarding. We still have plenty of work to do. I felt like we could have done a better job of slamming the door on our opponent in the second half and we let them hang around too long. We will learn from our first game experience and use the lessons in the upcoming games”, said Cascio.
The Bears will return to the court on Thursday night against Archbishop Rummel of the famed New Orleans Catholic League. The freshmen will play at 5:30 with the varsity tipping off at about 6:45. There will be no junior varsity game.
