The Catholic High varsity lacrosse team posted a pair of home victories over the weekend, improving its record to 3-0 on the year.
The Bears opened its home campaign with a convincing 18-0 victory over Friendship Capitol Magnet on Friday and then held off a tough Byrd High School squad 7-6 on Saturday. Leading the way offensively was the attack trio of Caleb Barber (4 goals, 1 assist), Topher Rives (4 goals, 1 assist) and Holden Farmer (3 goals, 7 assists). The squad also got 6 goals and 3 assists from the midfield unit of Mitchell Gillem, Reed Fontenot and Trey Ball.
Setting the tempo for the Bears was face-off specialist William Conger, who went 31-5 over the weekend while also picking up 10 ground balls. Anchoring the defense was standout goalie Hayden Toups, with a 52% season save percentage, and weekend captain Gabe Brown, a long pole defender. Also, defensive middie Nick Saurage scooped up 12 ground balls over the two games.
The junior varsity team also remained undefeated with a pair of victories over the weekend.
The lacrosse team returns to action Friday night in a BBN televised game against Airline High School at 7 p.m. and on Saturday vs. Ocean Springs.
