The Catholic High wrestling team will head west down I-10 this weekend for the prestigious Ken Cole Tournament hosted by Comeaux High of Lafayette.
The Cole is an annual stop for top programs around the state near the back end of the wrestling season schedule. Over forty teams will compete on Friday and Saturday in what is always a tune up for the state tournament, which is on the horizon on early February.
The Bears are looking forward to a competitive stretch of grappling after putting up solid results last week at Hoover High in Alabama. The Cole has been contested for over four decades and brings the top wrestlers from north and south to Lafayette every season. Next weekend is the Louisiana Classic, one of the biggest events on the Louisiana prep wrestling schedule.
Veteran coach Tommy Prochaska anticipates some great wrestling this weekend. “The Ken Cole is a preview for what teams will see in the last few weeks of the season. For us, our wrestlers who play football are finally hitting their stride. They have now been with us for a month and should have any kinks ironed out, ” Prochaska said.
Brian Hibbard (12-3 at 195), Christian Manninio (12-6 at 220), Connor Finucane (13-3 at 285), and Noah Riche (3-3 at 182) are the football players Prochaska alluded to.
Hunter Goodson (32-12), Luke Romano (31-11), Andrew Evans (33-19), Ian Wyble (32-10), and A.J. Sabine (28-7) are veterans in the CHS program.
The Cole kicks off on Friday at 3pm and the action gets back underway at 8am on Saturday. The finals will be conducted at 1pm on Saturday.
