The Jordan T. ‘Jordy’ Rourke ’06 Memorial Endowed Scholarship Established
The Jordan T. ‘Jordy’ Rourke ’06 Memorial Endowed Scholarship has been established through the generosity of friends of his family. This scholarship will forever honor the memory of Jordy, who passed away on May 19, at the age of 20, after suffering a heart attack.
Jordy attended elementary school at St. George and was an honors graduate of Catholic High. He had just completed his sophomore year at Millsaps College. Despite being born with spina bifida, he was known at CHS as a fierce competitor and threw himself into all kinds of games with his friends and classmates, never asking for or expecting any special treatment.
He was a ‘people person’ and terrific friend to a wide variety of people. Jordy was blessed with an extreme empathy and compassion for people, and always set aside quality time for his many friends. Of special importance to him was the time he spent as a counselor at the Lions Camp for Handicapped Children. During his college vacations he spent much of his time volunteering in rural Mississippi.
Jordy was a devout Christian who truly cared about all people, but especially those that were less fortunate. His interest and talents ranged from fishing to classical guitar. His greatest desire in life was to be there for his family, his friends, and for anyone in need. He touched the lives of everyone he came in contact with, and he had a special love for his three nephews.
‘Jordy was a uniquely gifted individual and an outstanding example of how we should live our lives,’ remarked CHS Principal Brother Barry Landry. ‘This scholarship will be a lasting tribute to a young man who had a profound impact on so many people.’
