Three Students Receive Discus Awards
Seniors Gunter Gaupp, Brady Sperier and Austin Walker have been named Discus Award Winners for the 2011- 2012 school year.
Gaupp was awarded for his academic excellence, involvement in student athletics and passion for music. Gaupp has been co-captain of the CHS Ultimate Team for two years and has studied and performed guitar since he was eight years old. Gaupp currently plays in multiple music groups and aspires to one day write scores for a major motion picture.
Sperier was recognized as an academically excellent student for his participation in National Honor Society and Literary Rally at the district and state levels. He was also recognized as a varsity letterman of the Catholic High School wrestling team as well as CHS Student Minister.
Walker was honored for excelling in academics, technology and athletics. He is an honor student and plans on attending the LSU Honors College. He also began his own web design business and is a member of the CHS wrestling team.
The Discus Awards is a national program that began in October 2009 and seeks to honor the íÍAll-Around High School Student.íñ Students recognized with a Discus Award must excel in at least three of the following ten attributes: academics, arts, athletics, community service, faith, government, green, technology, work and other achievements.
