Track & Field Kicks off Outdoor Season at CHS Tip-Off

The Catholic High Boys Varsity Track & Field team kicked their 2021 outdoor season into high gear last week, as they opened their season with a win in the annual CHS Tip-Off.

Saturday’s season opener featured a record shattering performance from senior Jackson Rimes in the Javelin Throw. Rimes on his second attempt unleashed a monstrous throw of 202’4 ft, bringing home the first win of the day. This mark extends Jackson’s lead as the #1 nationally ranked high school Javelin thrower.

The Bears 4x800m relay team also put together a record setting performance. In their 2nd place finish, Blaison Treuil, Max Guillot, Matthew Hubbell, and Ben Langley ran a blazing 8:00.4 which would have shattered the meet record by nearly 8 seconds. This time gives the 2021 bears the #4 time in school history. The bears only fell to a highly talented Ruston squad to put the meet record at 7:53.5, giving the bears a new mark to set their sights on.

Treuil took to the track for the second time lining up in the 800m. Treuil clocked a winning time of 2:00.4 giving the Bears 10 more points.

Senior Brock Boudreaux turned in a personal best in the 400m, clocking a time of 50.3 giving him a silver finish for the day. Teammates Shannon Helaire, and Britton LeBlanc also clocked personal bests in the 400m running 51.4 and 51.5 respectively.

The Catholic Hurdles squad has put together a promising start to the season. Senior Brandt Middleton has built on his stellar indoor season, by opening his outdoor season with a winning time of 14.6 in the 110m hurdles. Middleton doubled up on the day bringing home the bronze in the 300m intermediate hurdles, crossing the finish line at 41.7 seconds. Brandt was just edged out by his teammate Lucas Gawarecki, who clocked the exact same time but was hundredths of a second faster, giving him the silver finish.

The CHS Track and Field Team will be back in action Saturday March 13 looking to bring home another victory on the season. Throwing events will begin at 11:00am and Running events will begin at 1:00pm. Come out and support your 2021 Bears Track & Field team.
