Unbeaten Bears Dominate St. Amant To Lead District 5-5A

Despite the wet conditions last Friday night, the CHS football team found their footing and remained undefeated on the season with a 56-12 victory over St. Amant. The win also gave the Bears the outright lead in District 5-5A.

The offense scored seven times while the defense forced two turnovers in the first half to build a 49-6 halftime lead. Senior quarterback Jackson Thomas completed 7 of 10 passes for 133 yards and two scores. Thomas also ran for a score on the Bears’ opening drive. Backup quarterback Landon O’Connor also found the end zone on the ground. Overall, the CHS offense rushed for more than 230 yards and received contributions from multiple running backs. Senior Braelen Morgan led the team with 69 yards, and sophomore Corey Singleton added a 51-yard scoring run.

Defensively, the Bears only allowed 157 total yards to the Gators. Sophomore Joshua Wax picked off St. Amant quarterback Slade Zeppuhar on the first drive of the game, helping CHS gain an early advantage.

The 8-0 Bears are back in action this Thursday night at Memorial Stadium for a Halloween showdown against Woodlawn. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m.
