Varsity Basketball Team Played Hard Against Number One Ranked Team

CHS looked to bounce back from a district loss to St. Amant by playing the number one team in the state, the Woodlawn Panthers. The starters for the Bears in the game were Jason Peters (Jr.), Tim Losavio (Jr.), Matthew Butcher (Jr.), Chase Ellis (Jr.), and team captain Lee Barbay (Sr.). Woodlawn proved their number one ranking was justified and defeated the bears 64-40.

In the first quarter, the Bears could not find their shot and the Panthers were on the mark. Woodlawn stormed out to a 20-7 lead and Catholic had a hard time catching up. The team found themselves in a 27 point deficit at half time and could have given up at this point.

To the credit of Coach Todd and his staff the Bears battled on. With strong play from Cory Richard, Paul Barrios, Cody Hoover, and Mark Hammonds, the team cut the lead of the Panthers from 37 down to 16pts. The loss is a set back, but the team can still qualify for the playoffs with a win in one of their next two games.

The next competition for the team, Denham Springs High School. In the first game of the season, DSH scored a last second basket to win. Emotions will be high for this contest that is set for 7:00 Friday night at Denham Springs High School. Junior Varsity action starts at 6:00 with the Varsity action to follow.
