The football team improved their record to 6-0 on Friday with an exciting 28-21 victory over the St. Amant Gators. The win puts the Bears in sole possession of first place in district 3-5A. The game, held at ‘The Pit’ was a classic battle in the storied rivalry of the two schools.

The Bears jump out to an early 13-0 lead behind the precision passing of junior quarterback Ryan Lewis and hard running by senior Henry Minor. Lewis was 9-17 on the night for a total of 166 yards and two touch downs. He also carried the ball 8 times for 88 yards. The first touchdown of the night was an 18 yard pass to Spencer Harrell who made a spectacular catch in the back of the end zone. On the next series, Minor carried the ball in from eight yards out behind solid blocking by the offensive line. Minor also accounted for the third touchdown of the night with a 3 yard run in the fourth quarter. The final score of the night for the Bears was a 28 yard pass from Lewis to senior receiver Matt Sinclair.

The defense was intense and focused all night. Chris Gremillion led the team with 8 total tackles and the secondary played well against the potent Gator spread offense. The defensive line put presser on Gator quarterback all game and sacked him 8 times. Matthew Broha led the defensive front and finished the game with 3 sacks.

Make plans for this Thursday night to come see the Bears take on the Woodlawn Panthers. The game will be held at Olympia Stadium and should be as exciting as last years double overtime contest. Please be aware that the freshman game this week has been moved to Wednesday and the J.V. game will be Tuesday. Tickets for the Varsity game are available at the C.H.S. bookstore.
