Varsity Soccer Team Increased District Record to 3-2

The soccer team increased its district record to 3-2 last night with a 2-1 victory over St. Amant at ‘The Pit.’ Coach Landry was excited about the complete team effort, and the win keeps the Bears in the hunt for a district championship.

St. Amant scored first in the game, but Kyle Robert tied the game at one late in the first half. Outstanding defense kept the game knotted through regulation. The two teams battled evenly through two overtime periods before going to a shoot-out. In the shoot out period, each team scored three goals and the match proceeded to a sudden death format. The Gators shot first and goalie Brandon Gwin made a crucial save. Freshman Sean Cotton shot for the Bears and his goal secured the victory for the team.

The next match for the Bears will be Saturday at 1 p.m. They will be playing Central High School at Central.
