Will History Repeat Itself’

As LSU plays its second game in the College World Series, Catholic High has a long history with LSU Baseball Championships that is unprecedented. There have been Catholic High graduates on every LSU National Championship Baseball Team.

o 1991 ‘ 1 CHS graduate
o 1993 ‘ 5 CHS graduates
o 1996 ‘ 6 CHS Graduates
o 1997 ‘ 8 CHS graduates ( a record number for any one high school)
o 2000 ‘ 4 CHS graduates

There have been 22 Catholic High baseball players at LSU since 1980 and 62 collegiate baseball players. Patrick Coogan ’93 was the winning pitcher for LSU in 1996 when Warren Morris hit the home run in the bottom of the 9th against Miami to win the CWS. Coogan went on to play professional baseball. Kurt Ainsworth ’96 pitched in the CWS and was an Olympic Gold Medalist in baseball in 2000. He went on to pitch for the San Francisco Giants.

Austin Nola ’08 is the starting short stop for the LSU Tigers tonight in the second game of the College World Series.
