Wrestling Bears Compete in the Louisiana Duals
The Louisiana Duals were held for the first time this past weekend giving all Division I teams in the state an opportunity for head-to-head competition against other programs as the regular season winds down.
The Bears came in with a 9-1 record in duals on the 2017-2018 season and picked up pool play victories versus Bonnabel and Covington on Friday. On Saturday, the teams were seeded on a bracket based on their pool play results. The Bears defeated Hahnville in the Round of 16 to move their record to 12-1. In the quarterfinals, CHS battled St. Paul’s to a slim 33-32 victory to move to 13-1.
In the semifinals, the Bears lost to a loaded Brother Martin squad that is the favorite for the Division I title. Jacob Fereday and Canon Hunt both scored victories in the semis against Brother Martin. In the 3rd place match, the Bears dropped a close match to Jesuit after being tied 27-27 late in the contest.
Over the weekend, senior Jacob Fereday became the all-time leader in wins in Catholic High wrestling history with 181. Fereday passed 2010 alum Trent Fresina.
The last regular season dual meet for the Bears will be on Wednesday, Jan. 24, for 6 p.m. versus Zachary. Dual action will be held in the Bear Cave.
