Wrestling Bears End Regular Season with 16-6 Record

The CHS Wrestling team defeated Zachary High in its final dual meet of the season by a score of 67-9.  The squad finishes the regular season with a record of 16-6.

Winning matches for the Bears were: Davis Polito (138), Brent Torres (145), Andrew Messina (152), Tyler Werener (170), Braeden Smith (220) and K.J. Wilson (285).  Taylor Nikolaus, Briggs Hinton, A.J. Sabine, Daniel Gunn, Lance Blanchard and Jacob Fereday were victorious via forfeit.
The Bears are back on the mat for the City Championships at CHS on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 29 and 30. The tournament begins on Friday for 4 p.m. and resumes on Saturday morning at 9:30 am.
The Bears are the defending champions of the city tournament and coach Tommy Prochaska’s bunch are seeking city title number 27. The city tournament pits 17 teams against each other from all classifications in the Greater Baton Rouge Area.  Catholic, St. Amant, Brusly and Live Oak are considered the top teams to watch this weekend.

Bears seeded #1 for City are:
Cameron Carpenter at 120, Daniel Gunn at 126, Davis Polito at 138, Jacob Fereday at 160 and heavyweight K.J.Wilson.

The Bears also have four #2 seeds in:
Brent Torres at 145, Andrew Messina at 152, Nicholas Danna at 195 and James DeLee at 220. 

The Division I state championship meet is two weeks away, on Feb. 12-13, at the Century Tel Center in Bossier City.
