Wrestling Team Opens Season With Win Over East Ascension
The CHS wrestling team picked up a 64-9 win over East Ascension at opening day on Wednesday, Nov. 2. The Bears traveled to their district rival in Gonzales and tallied a win in all but two matches to win in blowout fashion.
The Bears were led by two of their main cogs from last year, Cameron Carpenter at 132 and Jacob Fereday at 182. Carpenter defeated his opponent, 17-1, while Fereday was victorious by a tally of 18-3. Another returner, Clayton Torres, won by technical fall in the 160 pound division.
ÒIt was good to get the season started with a win,Ó said Head Wrestling Coach Tommy Prochaska. ÒWe have some work to do, but we expect to get better this weekend in a meet format. There will be eighteen schools at the Warrior Open which has historically been the kickoff meet on opening weekend.”
The Bears will hit the mat on Saturday, Nov. 5 in the Warrior Open hosted by St. Michael High School. Preliminary matches start at 9 a.m.
