Wrestling Team To Travel to Bossier City for Division I State Meet
The CHS Wrestling team travels to Bossier City for the Division I state meet on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 12 and 13. The state championship meet will be held at the CenturyLink Arena, a 14,000 seat facility that has been the home for minor league hockey and arena football teams along with hosting NCAA women’s basketball tournament games. Wrestling in such an arena is a treat for the Bears and coach Tommy Prochaska. The Bears have won three state titles, the latest coming in 2010, and have been state runners-up five times. The grapplers are coming into the final meet of the season with momentum after capturing the City Championship meet two weekends ago. It was their Baton Rouge area record twenty-seventh City championship.
Brother Martin is the prohibitive favorite entering the state meet, but will be challenged by the Bears, St. Paul’s, Jesuit (coached by former CHS assistant Sheridan Moran), Comeaux, Archbishop Rummel, Holy Cross, Hahnville and Airline.
The lineup for the Bears at the state meet will be:
106 – Evan Goldsmith
113 – Luke Romano
120 – Cameron Carpenter
126 – Daniel Gunn
132 – Lance Blanchard
138 – Davis Polito
145 – Brent Torres
152 – Andrew Messina
160 – Jacob Fereday
170 – Denver Denison
182 – Nicholas Danna
195 – William Price
220 – James DeLee
285 – K.J. Wilson
Seeded wrestlers for the Bears are:
Cameron Carpenter #3 at 120; Davis Polito #4 at 138; Andrew Messina #6 at 152; Jacob Fereday the 2nd seed at 160; 6th seeded James DeLee at 220; and, top seed K.J. Wilson in the Heavyweight division.
The Bears received bad news that Daniel Gunn, a stalwart in the 126 pound weight class, will miss the meet due to injury. Gunn would have been a top eight seed for the Bears.
