Wrestling Team Travels To Bossier City For State Meet
“10:15 to Bossier City” could be the name of a new movie or the Thursday, Feb. 9, charter departure time of the CHS wrestling team headed to the state meet in Bossier City. Prelims get started at 9 a.m. on Friday morning with the semis scheduled for 10:30 a.m. on Saturday morning. The Division I finals get underway at 6 p.m. Saturday evening.
Coach Tommy Prochaska hopes to see some of his wrestlers still competing on Saturday afternoon with a chance for competing in the spotlight on Saturday night. “We have a number of guys who are capable of making the semifinals if they wrestle to their ability,” said Prochaska. “I feel we have the opportunity at knocking off a few higher seeds and upsetting our way into contention as a team. I like our bracket and I like our matchups.”
The Bears have four wrestlers seeded in the top five: Luke Romano is the 5 seed at 106; Jude Franklin is also seeded 5th at 120; the 4 seed at 132 is Cameron Carpenter; and Jacob Fereday is the 3 seed at 170. Blanchard, Carpenter and Fereday were City champions in the most recent meet. Five of the 14 Bear wrestlers will be competing in the state meet for the first time. Two freshmen – Canon Hunt and Hunter Goodson – will compete at the state meet.
Assistant coach Ben DiPalma ’00 added his insight as the team went through their final workout before departing. “We told the guys to end the season on their terms and leave it all on the mat,” said DiPalma.
Catholic League powers Jesuit, Holy Cross and Brother Martin are considered the favorites for the Division I title.
