Wrestling State Championships Set For This Weekend

Coach Prochaska and the wrestling team have been diligently preparing for the State Wrestling Championships that will take place this weekend at the Pontchartrian Arena in Kenner. Preliminary rounds will start at 9:00am on Friday. The Semi-Final rounds are scheduled for 10:30am on Saturday; the Finals will take place later that night at 6:30pm. Golf Teams Dominate in First Match

The CHS Golf teams "B" and "A" placed first and second respectively in the first match of the year at Dumas Golf course. Members of the "B" team are Philip Stuart, Dillon Mathies, Stuart Bonaventure and Greg Berthelot. Dillon Mathies was the medalist. Tied for second were Ben Adams and Stuart Bonaventure. Soccer Team Finished Season 3rd in District

The soccer team finished the season this weekend with a 3 - 0 loss to Lafayette High School. For the season, the Bears' record is 10 - 11 - 3 with a 3rd place finish in district. The JV team won their game 1 - 0 against Baton Rouge High to compile a season record of 11 - 8 - 3. The freshmen team had a 1 - 0 victory against U-High School to end their season with a record of 12 - 5 - 1....

Tennis Star Cody Loup Signs With Memphis

CHS Senior Cody Loup has signed to play tennis at the University of Memphis. Loup received both an academic and athletic scholarship to the university. Loup is ranked number one in the state in the 18 singles and doubles and 15th in the southern region. He plays first court singles for Catholic High and helped lead the Bears to fifth in state last year. Varsity Basketball Team Played Hard Against Number One Ranked Team

CHS looked to bounce back from a district loss to St. Amant by playing the number one team in the state, the Woodlawn Panthers. The starters for the Bears in the game were Jason Peters (Jr.), Tim Losavio (Jr.), Matthew Butcher (Jr.), Chase Ellis (Jr.), and team captain Lee Barbay (Sr.). Woodlawn proved their number one ranking was justified and defeated the bears 64-40. In the first quarter, the Bears could not find their shot and the Panthers were on the mark. CHS French Club Won First Place at French Club Convention

The CHS French Club won first place in Banner Competition at the annual state French Clubs convention this weekend. Davis Rhorer also won a scholarship for a five-week study program at the College of Jonquiere (jon-KEY-air) in Quebec, Canada this summer. The CHS wrestling team dominated at the city wrestling meet. The JV won the team title by 70 points over Brusly and was led by Matthew Guidry, Sam Knight and Kevin Anderson. The varsity team won the city title for the fourth straight year. Team members who placed first were Luis Alexander, Alex Hurst, Trent Fresina, Kyle Kleinpeter, Brian Parenton and Jonathan Lambert. Julius Fleming Signs To Play Football at New Mexico State

Julius Fleming signed a letter of intent Feb. 1, 2006 to play football at New Mexico State. Fleming was the leading rusher for the Bears with 1,342 yards on 149 carries. The football team's record was 12-1 and the Bears went to the state playoffs for the 18th year in a row. Currently, there are 14 CHS graduates playing collegiate football.
