Senior Joseph Stassi Selected as a Candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program

Catholic High School senior Joseph Stassi, son of Mr. John Stassi lll and Ms. Karen Tatum, has been selected as a candidate for the United States Presidential Scholars Program. This prestigious award was established in 1964 to honor our Nationí´s most distinguished graduating high school seniors.

Each year, 3,000 seniors are selected based on their outstanding academic achievement and exceptional SAT or ACT scores. After initial review, approximately 20 females and 20 males are selected as candidates from each state, and submit materials for review including essays, self-assessments, secondary school reports and transcripts. A review committee experienced in secondary and post-secondary education evaluates candidates on their academic achievement, personal characteristics, leadership and service activities. Approximately 560 candidates are named semifinalists, and their names and supporting materials are forwarded to the Commission for further review.

In April, the White House Commission on Presidential Scholars reviews the applications of all semifinalists, and selects up to 121 Academic Scholars and up to 20 Arts Scholars. All scholars are honored for their accomplishments during the National Recognition Weekend, held in June in Washington, D.C.

Congratulations to Joseph and this outstanding accomplishment.
