Swim Team off To Battle for Fifth Straight Division I State Title
Veteran swim coach Doug Logsdon ’02 welcomed a new member to his family, Eleanor Elizabeth, on Thursday morning. A blessed weekend for Logsdon would not only be the addition of a healthy baby girl to the family, but the addition of another Division I state title to the trophy case. The CHS swim team will be shooting for its fifth straight Division I title and sixth in the last seven years this weekend.
The prelims begin on Friday at 4 p.m. On Saturday, warmups begin at 2 p.m. with the finals splashing off at 3 p.m. The championship is contested at the SPAR Aquatic Center in Sulphur.
The biggest competitors for the Bears are the Jesuit Blue Jays, who come into the state meet with impressive qualifying times. In order to make up some ground on the Jays, the Bears will need to get some fast times in some events where they do not have top three qualifiers.
Top three qualifiers for the Bears for the preliminaries are:
1 seeds: Sion Cavana (200 free); Mason Nyboer (500 free); Tyler McCullough (100 breast)
2 seeds: Sion Cavana (100 free); Daniel Woodruff (500 free); 200 medley relay; 200 free relay; 400 free relay
3 seed: Daniel Woodruff (200 IM)
“We are feeling good going into Friday,” said Logsdon. “The guys have been swimming fast all year and this weekend we expect much of the same. We have a great group of seniors who are looking to extend our state championship streak. As coaches, we just want to see them swim to the best of their ability and represent their school, this program and their families well.”
