The Bears Focus Their Attention on the LHSAA Division I Playoffs

The Catholic High Bears wrapped up a unanimous district title with a 55-20 walloping of Broadmoor in a Friday night road game.  The Bears scored often and subbed for their starters early in the game, playing the junior varsity team for most of the game.  It is the first district title for the Bears since 2016 and the first in coach Gabe Fertitta’s tenure at Catholic High.  Coach Fertitta also reached the twenty win milestone in his career as the gridiron boss for CHS.

The Bears will now focus its attention on the LHSAA Division I playoffs.  The team received a bye and will be the #2 seed on the Division I bracket.  The Bears have kept fresh this week with short, but crisp practices and maintained and built its strength in the weight room.

Catholic will play the winner of #7 Holy Cross and #10 St. Augustine, both of the New Orleans area Catholic League.  That game will be played on Friday night at Yenni Stadium in Metairie with kickoff set for 7pm.  The Bears last played Holy Cross in 2013, losing in a Division I quarterfinal playoff game.  The Bears defeated St. Augustine last season in the Division I quarterfinals.

Fans can tune in to the LHSAA website for score updates on the game that will feature the quarterfinal opponent for CHS.  Fans can also watch one of the local high school television shows for scores ad highlights to stay updated.
