Track Captures 5-5A State Championship Again

It’s a repeat for the Bears as the track team captured the 5-5A State Track Championship for the second year in a row on May 9 at the LSU Track and Field.

Catholic High scored 99 points, far ahead of St. Amant with 42 points and West Monroe with 38 points. The Bears scored points in 10 of 11 track events and 2 of 7 field events.

"This was an incredible performance on the right day. The guys had their best performance at the state meet," commented Head Track Coach Pete Boudreaux.

One of the most exciting runs occurred in the 4×100 relay. The team of Ryan Frick, Ben Guarisco, Marcus Thomas and Andrew Rhorer captured first and clocked at time of 41.00, the 3rd fastest time ever run in the state championship.

A first also occurred in CHS history with Guarisco winning the 100 dash and the 200 dash. He was also named Boys Outstanding Performer.
Barrett Miller came from behind to pass teammate Philip Primeaux and Kyle Steele of Walker to capture the 1,600 run. Primeaux finished third.

Primeaux returned to take first in the 3200 run.

Other individual winners for the Bears were Mark Rolfsen, second in pole fault; Jeremy Dismukes, third in 300 hurdles; Kevin Taylor, fourth in 400 dash; Zack Oliver, fourth in javelin; Andrew Rhorer, fourth in 100 dash; and Gabe LeBlanc, sixth in 110 hurdles.

Catholic High placed second in the 4×200 and third in the 4×400.
