In a match up of undefeated teams, the Bears dominated the Griffins by a score of 39-3. Olympia stadium was filled to overflow capacity, and the crowed witnessed the trademark physical ‘Black Hat’ defense and a balanced offensive attack.

Dutchtown received the ball first and held it for nine minutes of the first quarter by converting on two 4th down plays. On their third attempt the defense held the line when Cody Muse and Chris Gremillion stopped the Griffins running back for no gain. After that emotional lift, the Bears shut down Dutchtown’s offense for the rest of the game. The Griffins total yards for the game was 110; their top ranked running attack only netted 86yards. The defense also intercepted two passes and ran them back for touchdowns. For a second week in a row, Thomas Broussard scored on an interception, returning this one for 72 yards. Sophomore linebacker Jordan McClay returned an interception for a 55 yard score after Sr. Austin Hatcher leveled the quarterback and the ball popped up in the air.

The Bears offense was sharp all night. Ryan Lewis led the team with 153 yards through the air (6-12; 1 TD) and an additional 40 yards (1 TD) rushing. Sr. wide receiver Matt Sinclair hulled in 4 catches for 79 yards and 1 touchdown. Jeremy Stewart (107y) and Henry Minor (55y) led the way for the running game both averaging over 7y per carry. A crucial play for the Bears came at the end of the first half. With only 18 seconds remaining and with the Bears only up by 4 points, Ryan Lewis threw a 40y pass to Junior receiver Spencer Harrell that was caught and downed at the 1y line. The Bears called a time out with 6 seconds remaining and decided to go for the touchdown. Tremendous blocking on the left side by Jason Peters, Cody Blanchard, Kyle Free, and Logan Robiqeu allowed Ryan Lewis to score on a quarterback keep. The Bears took the momentum and control of the game into the second half.

The coaches and players would like to thank the parents, band, cheerleaders, students, and fans for their awesome support this season. Their support is needed again next Friday when the Bears take on the St. Amant Gators. The game will take place at ‘The Pit’ at 7:00pm. The Gators and the Bears are the only undefeated teams left in district, and the game will go a long way in determining the district championship.
